Nature’s Botanical is an essential oil based natural insect repellent. It repels flies, mosquitoes and sandflies, which are also known as midges. In addition, Nature’s Botanical does not contain chemicals such as DEET or Picaradin. Due to the properties of the essential oils, the product can also soothe itches if it’s too late.
Extensive field studies have shown the product can repel flies, midges and mosquitoes for up to 4 hours when applied to lower limbs. These studies were conducted in Tropical Queensland.
Actual protection time will vary depending on a number of factors such as how applied, the area of protection (because limbs are less attractive to flies than the face) and skin chemistry (eg sweating, how attractive an individual is to insects etc). To ensure maximum protection, especially with aggressive mosquitoes in the North, the product needs to be applied to all exposed areas ie apply it like you would a sunscreen (it doesn’t offer SPF protection though).
We have sold more than half a million units in Australia and overseas since 2005 making it one of Australia’s most popular natural insect repellent.
Our essential oil ingredients are Rosemary Oil and Cedarwood Oil. These are combined in a base which includes olive oil and vegetable based emulsifiers.
Both oils are regarded as safe for application to skin by regulators such as the EPA. Because Nature’s Botanical is a natural insect repellent it is far safer to use then products containing chemicals such as DEET. Whilst their natural insect repellent properties are relatively well known, they are understood to have other beneficial properties which include anti-septic, anti-inflammatory etc.
In addition to using our product as an insect repellent, customers also report the following uses:
The following links provide some interesting material:
The crème is white and thick and comes in a tub. Due to its essential oils, the crème has a pleasant aromatic odour. When the Crème is rubbed into the skin it becomes transparent and leaves no oily residue.
Due to Nature’s Botanical Lotion being substantially thinner than the Crème it is more suitable when used in a spray and roll-on application.

“It may seem odd that I at writing this to you at 2am but I have just been up with our 2year old who has allergic reactions to mozzie bites. We have tried everything and have found your product recently (and are extremely excited that you're in Mittagong as we are in Bowral) I am over the moon and so happy to say that it works and it's a godsend to know it soothes her bites. So THANK YOU! Without your cream I am certain we would not be getting sleep tonight because of swollen bites and a VERY cranky toddler.”
"Good evening, Julian. Just a quick one – we went horse riding and this was used/recommended by the owner. Worked a treat at keeping flies at bay. Is it effective for other insects? Thanks"
Here's a little tip to keep away the bush flies!
"Hello, Is there any possibility of ordering small quantities from the United States? An Aussie friend introduced your product to me over the weekend, and I was amazed at how well it deterred face flies from my horse. I haven't found anything that works better! Thank you for any help and information."
"Fly cream. This is a debatable item, mainly because some people argue there is no such thing as successful fly repellent. However please note I am not referring to insect repellent which of course most people will already have on their list, I am talking about fly cream. The best I’ve found is ‘Natures Botanical, Rosemary and Cedar wood oils in a natural cream’. Basically you need a strong smelling aromatherapy type cream to dab on your face and ears. You’ll still be surrounded by flies but it will stop them from actually landing on your face and walking over it, up your nose, into your ears or eyes and generally make being outside that bit more bearable."
"Natures Botanicals – Rosemary and Cedarwood Cream – I honestly thought the flies would send me completely insane at times on this trip. Even a buff pulled up over my mouth and nose didn’t stop them from crawling up under my sunglasses and trying to suck the moisture from my eyeballs. Any touring cyclists will know that swatting flies and trying to manage a fully loaded bike on busy roads with any kind of wind at all is fraught with danger. That’s why this stuff gets my number one vote. A small amount around the face keeps the flies at bay and it smells great. Sure you’ll have to reapply at regular intervals, especially if you’re sweating BUT it totally works. A small jar will set you back around $12 but is enough to last months. We bought it in a Saddlers and we’ve seen it in some camping stores. Otherwise you can buy it direct from their website."
"I've just spoken to your mother and she gave me your e-mail address and suggested I write to you instead of phoning. I've been a buyer and user of the Rosemary and Cedarwood oils in natural creme for many years and I was wondering how to replenish my supply... what I haven't used myself has been purloined (although given willingly) to children, grandies, great grandies and friends. It is without doubt, a fabulous product ! Living as we do out in the west and with the amount of rain we've had .. you can imagine how bad the flies are with all the greenery, especially the little black ones that are the bane of any outside activity."
"I've worked in the Cooper Basin for 18 years and as Swogjb has said after rain the only relief will be a fly net, it rained out here in central Australia about 4 weeks ago and there has been an explosion of flies of the likes that I haven’t seen for many years, we are waiting for the weather to get really cold as that will knock the little buggers on the head. We have used all the repellents you can name over the years and none of them will work for longer than 5 minutes in these conditions, the only one we have found to work longer than that is a natural product called Nature's Botanical http://www.naturesbotanical.biz/products.html, it is made of natural oils form cedarwood and rosemary (as mentioned above) but I have no idea where to (or if you could) buy it in central Aus. As said above the next best would be Bushman’s but it won’t work for long so if you can grab the kids (and yourselves) some fly nets.
